Hi, I am Margaret Donald (she/her) a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in Cary NC. I am a holistic counselor whose passion is helping people. For me counseling is so much more than “just listening to your problems” it is teaching you to advocate for yourself, set boundaries, allow your feelings and learn to love yourself.
When I think about my ideal client the first thing that comes to mind are people who are either very unapologetically authentically themselves OR who want to be. If I could do one thing in this world it would be to remove the negativity associated with the word WEIRD because I love being weird and people who are weird!
When I graduated from Walden University and I started ADAC, 10 years ago, I wanted it to be a warm, safe and comfortable space where ALL people could feel welcomed. It works out great that I’m in a little red house in the woods that has been converted into office space. The walkway down to the office can give you a few minutes to decompress and breathe in nature before and after your session. Need a little grounding? Go ahead, stop and hug that tree, we won't judge. In fact I’ll join you.
Over the past 10 years I have been afforded the opportunity to work with people who identify as LGBTQ+, neurodivergent individuals, and BIPOC people. Sometimes it was for depression, anxiety or self esteem. Other times it was joining them on a journey to find and become their authentic selves. I take great pride in being allowed to take their journey with them.
If you have ever felt marginalized or unseen/unheard I am the counselor for you. If you are looking for empathy, support and to be challenged so you achieve your greatest self, I am the counselor for you. If you have ever felt weird or been told you are weird, I am the counselor for you. If you are looking for CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) or solution focused therapy I am the counselor for you. If you like magic the gathering, DnD, Marvel movies, and all types of music, I am the counselor for you. If you believe in Aliens, bigfoot, and ghost, I am MOST DEFINITELY the counselor for you.
Because I firmly believe that the key to your success in counseling is the therapeutic relationship, I make the first consultation free. By doing this you are able to meet me, ask me questions, and determine if I am a good fit for your needs. Hi my name is Amy Brunson, Business Manager here at A Different Attitude Counseling located in the heart of Cary, NC.
I have 6 years of experience in the health care industry and coming up on 4 years of leadership experience. I have been working at ADAC since the pandemic in 2020. A little-known fun fact is that A Different Attitude Counseling has grown into a family-owned business. Margaret Donald is the owner of this beautiful counseling company and she just so happens to be my Mother-in-law. She needed someone to help her keep up with the growing demand for connection and guidance in 2020. I stepped up to help her handle all of the back-end responsibilities such as billing, insurance claims, client intake, employee payroll, even getting her set up from a sole prop to a PLLC, among other things. This was vital to ensure that Margaret was able to focus on providing the best possible care for her clients in such an unknown time. I am so happy to be a part of this team and even happier that I get to work with family.
When I am not typing away at my computer I am carpooling my two beautiful kids to and from school and daycare. They are 2 and 5 and they sure keep me busy! I am also a wife to a wonderful man and we are high school sweethearts that have been married for 13 years and together for 16 years. Sometimes I consider couples counseling when he forgets to unload the dishwasher and guess what? I would do it here!
My family and friends know that I am a ride or die Harry Potter fan…and yes, I purchased Harry Potter bedding for my children. They would also tell you that I have a warm personality and like to keep a positive attitude. The cup is always half full in my head. I like to strive to be someone that our client’s can come to if they are facing hardship and I will not stop until we have reached a solution that fits everyone’s needs.
I am so glad you stumbled upon our website! Let's get you set up with a free consultation so you can meet one of our counselors in our serene little red house in the woods.

Hi everyone! I’m Elaina, I use she/her pronouns, and I’m so excited to help you make a positive change in your life! I’m currently pursuing my Master’s at NC State in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and interning here at A Different Attitude Counseling.
I was fortunate enough in my undergraduate experience at the University of Rochester to have the opportunity to work in several psychological research labs. They helped me learn more about the psychology of children, adolescents, teens, and college students. However, it was when I was given the opportunity to counsel children identified as high risk for exposure to trauma and violence, that I realized counseling is truly where my passion lies. Additionally, I decided to take a gap year between undergrad and grad school to work with children at the Boys and Girls Club of America, and this experience solidified my desire to counsel children, adolescents, and families.
My ideal clients would be children, adolescents, and families who may need some additional support. I want to help anyone struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, regulating their emotions, or who just feels like their life would be benefited with therapy. I believe in creating a warm and inviting safe space to discuss our thoughts and experience our emotions, and anything else that may be weighing on your mind. I’d also like to work with adults who are ready and willing to work towards their ideal lives. My goal is to ensure my clients leave each session feeling like they’ve accomplished something. I would like to help guide you through your journey.
In my free time I love crocheting, hanging out with my adorable cat Piper, spending time with my friends and family, and getting out into nature! I’m always down to take a quick hike, grab a coffee, or hit up a book store or library.
